What is the A2 restriction?
First you must have completed both your CBT and Motorcycle Theory test. The A1 licence is your only option if you are aged 17 or 18. Passing the 125 test will give you an A1 licence which means that you will be restricted to 125cc machines developing 14.6bhp or less. If you are aged between 19 and 23 then you can do the A2 licence, this will entitle you to ride up to 35kw (47bhp). If you are 24 or over then you can go for the unrestricted category A licence.
For modern bikes, the restriction can be as easy as having a dealer flash the ECU or add an electronic part
that limits the ECU to 47bhp.
A throttle restrictor kit can be used to slow down older bikes that don’t have automatic throttles. Most of
the time, these are either a throttle stop, which stops the throttle butterfly or wire from moving, or a
washer kit, which stops fuel or air from getting into the engine.

Requirements
The A2 licence requires you to do the Mod 1 and Mod 2 test again. If you already have A1, you will not need to retake the Motorcycle Theory test Also your hazard perception test.
Course Modules
There are two modules in the practical test; you’ll have to pass Module 1 before you can take Module 2.
Module 1 is an off-road test in which you’ll have to show various manoeuvres including a figure of eight, cornering and a U-turn. You’ll need to ride as if you were out on the road.
Module 2 is a road riding test; it also includes an eyesight test and questions about safety checks on the motorbike and carrying a pillion passenger.
